This is a story of an eight-year-old girl Zoya who have been suffering from obesity since she was 11 months old. She had her Bariatric Surgery in India when she was a small kid but things did not work at that stage and she was back with the same problem suffering again with high BMI and child obesity. However, this led to the girl to undergo another surgery at the age of eight last year to see things under control making things in the right shape. Her mobility was disturbed and she was facing some other issues, like sleep apnea and breathing problems. She wanted to join school after the surgery and make friends and do a number of things that other children of his age do it easily. Things were simply impossible as she weighed 40 kgs at this age for the doctor but with the availability of the healthcare systems, the obesity surgery worked magic for the lady.
Zoya is a daughter of paper fan seller and had been suffering from a rare kind of ailment that comes genetically often to the children. She at the age of 11 months had undergone surgery but it did not give any result. However, the conditions turned worst for her as the doctors were not able to do justice to the surgery done earlier at a young age. This is the reason why she had to carry out the surgery again that had made things bad to worse. As per doctors, they are targeting to lose more weight in the coming few weeks as this age she should be not more than 20 to 22 kgs and she had been more than 40 when she has operated again last year. With father struggling to earn more to get money for her surgery the local media played a good role in extending support from the local people and hospital.
Once her story was brought out in the leading newspaper from Times Group, it attracted the attention of a leading surgeon dealing with bariatric surgery called Dr. Mohit Bhandari who is from the Surya Hospital group. He offered the help to the girl and soon Zoya was admitted to the MPCT Hospital in Mumbai where her treatment was supervised by the said doctor. Soon after three days, the doctor carried out the sleeve gastrectomy on the girl with the banded approach that helped in reducing the size of her stomach to a great extent. Due to obesity she was unable to stand and move and thus came the need for the surgery. The doctor expects to lose more five kgs of weight in the few days and keep on doing until she achieves the weight of 20.
The first surgery did not do well because the parents were not able to follow the restricted diet and carry out the other precautions which are a must to maintain things in a right shape. After the surgery, Zoya is on a constant physio session that has further helped in reducing more weight. This will continue until she gets the ideal weight. Now, with the surgery, the girl is now back to her right shape and continues to become slimmer with the passing time. This has made her happy as she knows she would be returning to her school and make new friends and play with them. Her family too is happy with the outcome of the surgery and the kind of support one have been getting in the recent past.
